Lakeridge Rec Cheer FAQs
If you are unable to find your answer, please feel free to email us at [email protected] and we will be happy to answer any and all questions.
What teams do you offer for Lakeridge Rec Cheer?
We offer two teams for fall sideline cheer:
Youth - 3rd-6th grade
Juniors - 7th & 8th grade
Do I have to have experience to be a part of LRC?
We do not require any experience to be a part of our program!
Do you cut at tryouts/registration?
Our youth and junior fall sideline teams are no-cut, although we do limit the participation number due to safety. Registration is in April the spring prior to the school year. Make sure you sign-up early!
Do you allow athletes to participate in other activities or on other teams?
We allow, and encourage, athletes to be active members in their school and community. This can include choirs, city league teams, school plays, etc. BUT, cheer has to come first. Members cannot miss any practices, games, or events for any other activity during the season. Participation on other teams, such as an all-star team, is very hard to juggle time-wise and Lakeridge Rec Cheer must be first priority.
We travel a lot during the summer. Is this a problem?
We do not have required LRC practices throughout the summer, although we do have two weeks of mandatory practice the two weeks prior to school starting. These practices are EXTREMELY important as this is when we safely prep the athletes for cheering at football games. The required dates are:
Sideline Camp - August 19th-22nd
Sideline Camp - August 26th-28th
Are your calendars set in stone?
Practice schedules are always set in stone due to facilitating various teams and working around other sports at Lakeridge High School. Game and competition schedules are tentative as they may be changed by the school hosting. We do our best to keep you informed of any changes immediately since your time is as precious as ours! Please note that we do not receive the Lakeridge Youth Football schedule until the end of August, which is why Saturdays in September and October are blocked out for the whole day. Once we have specific schedule, we will update game times.
How important is it that my child be at every practice?
Regardless of age, EVERY practice is important. We understand that illness and family emergencies happen, but we need every team member at every practice in order to be productive. Each team only practices 1-2 times a week and it's essential that we use every minute available with the entire team. If one member is missing, it affects a whole stunt group. Please do your best to plan accordingly, especially since the practice schedule is given out a year in advance.
What is the difference between Sideline Cheer and Competition Cheer?
Sideline Cheer is just that - cheering on the sidelines at the youth football games. In the winter we offer a separate registration for our Junior Rec Competition Team. All current sideline members of our rec teams are welcome to register. Please note that in order to compete with us you must cheer on sideline in the fall, although we will make exceptions for those who have just moved into the area. Those interested in competing in the Winter will do a separate team registration at the end of September. Competition season runs from October to February, with competitions starting in December or January.
Can we attend different tumbling classes?
We offer once a week tumbling classes starting in June at Lakeridge for our rec teams. If you would like to take ADDITIONAL tumbling classes, we have a list of reputable gyms for your cheerleader to attend.
Games are listed as TBD. Can we expect a game every Saturday in the fall?
Yes, there will be a game every Saturday in September and October. All games will take place at Lakeridge High School. We will not get the Lakeridge Youth Football schedule until late August. As soon as we know the dates and times, we will let you know!
We are interested in the competition team. Are all competitions required?
Yes. Cheerleading is a team sport and every member is needed in order for us to perform at our maximum ability level. Just like practice, if your cheerleader misses an event, it affects the entire team. Please make sure that you do not miss any events unless there is extreme illness involved.
